AP 2-D (2024 - 2025)
Psychologist William James theorized that whenever two people interacted, there were actually six people involved. He believed each person had three selves: who they think they are, who the other person thinks they are, and their true self. But what determines the perceived selves? In my sustained investigation, I wanted to look closer at the things in our lives and the lives of others that influence outward perception of a specific person. What do we look to when we want to understand someone? What do we use to control how people see us? How do we communicate and interpret these selves?
AP Drawing (2023 - 2024)
This sustained investigation was focused on what it is like to grow up participating in performing arts. My work on this theme helped me appreciate small, personal moments that often happen behind the scenes. The pieces in this portfolio highlight the social and skill aspects of theater. I focused on using a variety of mediums and even tried ones that I was not familiar with such as oil pastel and oil paint. Overall, I chose this theme because there are so many shared experiences that people in any area of performing arts can relate to. I wanted to show some of the experiences that connect people.
